In Business and Economics: The Foundation of Business

There is hardly a day that our lives are not touched by business. The products and resources that business firms confront us every minute.

Even the future of a nation like the Philippines is affected by business activities.

Although, we may have a general idea of what business is and maybe some knowledge of how they operate, it is important for us to have a more comprehensive view of our nation and our own financial health.

What is Business?

Business
  • it is a general term which includes all profit-seeking activities of the enterprises that provide goods and services necessary to an economic system.
  • it is a way of making profit
  • it is a structure, a process
Profit
  • it is the money that remains after a firm deducts its expenses (e.g., production costs and direct costs).

  1. It is a human activity directed at satisfying needs and wants through an exchange process.
  2. It is working with markets attempting to actualize potential exchanges, a human activity directed at satisfying needs and wants through the exchange process.
  3. It is a dynamic system and the most up to date activity, it being present in everywhere we go.
  4. It is a system concerned with planning and development of products and services, determination of prices, creation of promotional programs and distribution system to present and prospective market for satisfaction of their existing needs and wants, thus, maximizing profit in the long run.
  5. It referred to as distribution by businessman including all those that help facilities the flow of goods from the producer to the consumer.
  6. It is the process in a society by which demand structure for economic goods and services is anticipated and enlarged and satisfied through the conception, promotion, exchange and physical distribution of goods and services.
  7. It is the analyzing, organizing, planning and controlling of the firm's customers and activities with a view to satisfying the needs and wants of chosen consumer group at a profit.
  8. It is the process of continuously and profitably satisfying the target customer's needs, wants, and expectations more superior than others.
The four stages of Economic Development:
1. Self-sufficiency stage - People look for their own goods by hunting, fishing or planting.
2. Simple barter - It is done through exchanging of own goods to others for the reason that they are not contented of what they have now.
3. Local market/Talipapa - A place where people put the surplus goods and then sell them.
4. Mass production - It is what we are practicing now. It is done in order to satisfy the needs and consumption of large consumers.

In Business and Economics: Definition of Economics

Economics is a social science which deals to the phenomena of wealth getting and wealth spending activities of man to satisfy human wants. It is a classified body of knowledge concerning human relationships, clustered about man's effort to earn a living.

Four fields of Economics:
1. Production - process of creating, adding, increasing more utilities of the goods to satisfy human wants.
2. Distribution - proper apportionment or division of the income among the social needs. (Principles of Budgeting). Example is the pie graph of the household income. It is also the proper channeling of the goods from the producer to the ultimate or final buyer.
3. Exchange - it is a form of activity engaged by the sellers and buyers in a place known as market (known as marketing). 
4. Government - an institution the protects, assists, regulates, manages, operates, and owns some industries.

Objectives of Physical Education:

Through carefully selected physical education activities, an individual who participates actively will develop and maintain good health and a high level of physical fitness. The acquisition of physical skills can motivate an individual to participate further in physical activities, hence his growth and development will be enhanced. A person who is physically developed possesses the components of physical fitness, the strength, power, endurance, agility, flexibility, speed, balance, and coordination of his body parts. He is free from diseases and remediable defects.
